Parents

We strongly believe in engaging with parents to help children become good learners and to develop the learning habit for life. We recognise that parents provide a major influence on the learning process through their own ambition and their ability to support their children. We encourage frequent contact between home and school through weekly newsletters, updates on social media, termly parents’ evenings, curriculum evenings and drop-in sessions.

Should a parent wish to speak to their child’s class teacher, they can do so before or after school in the playground as teachers are outside before the bell and remain outside at the end of the school day until 3.30pm (this is different in the Foundation Stage where children are collected from classrooms). If parents would like a more formal appointment, then please let the class teacher know or speak to the school office, who can arrange an appointment with the teacher.

Once a year we send home a ‘parent survey’, asking about a range of topics related to the school. We enjoy reading the positive comments that parents make about their children’s time at Shaftesbury Park, and appreciate ideas that parents may have to further improve things at the school! If you wish to make a suggestion at any time you can do so in the ‘parents’ comments box’ in the school office, or by using our virtual suggestion box on the website.
