Our School Facilities and Grounds

OUR FACILITIES

Our Classrooms

Creating a positive and welcoming learning environment is an important prerequisite for excellent learning. At Shaftesbury Park, all pupils are actively involved in creating the learning environment, producing their own class charters and publishing work for display. Inviting book corners help to cultivate a love of reading that will last a lifetime.

Our Library

Graciously funded by donations, we are very proud of our library which provides all pupils with access to a wide range of fiction and non-fiction in both English and French, supplementing the book corners in each classroom. All classes have regular, timetabled library sessions.

Our ICT Resources

Pupils at Shaftesbury Park Primary School benefit from computers in every classroom as well as access to a fully appointed ICT suite and two suites of iPads.

Our School Halls

We have two schools halls, both of which are multipurpose spaces used for assemblies, singing and music lessons, PE/gymnastics lessons, extended day services, extracurricular activities and our lunch services.

OUR OUTSIDE SPACE

At Shaftesbury Park, we believe that every child has the right to play and understand the fundamental role of good learning and play environments in allowing pupils to make the best progress and reach the highest possible standards they can in all aspects of their development.

Our grounds include a separate foundation stage and infant/junior playgrounds, each with their own play equipment, a specialised national lottery-funded sports pitch, a garden and a stage area.

Our Foundation Stage Outdoor Area

With a particular focus on the prime areas of learning and Forest School, our Foundation Stage outdoor area provides children with a first class environment within which to develop all the characteristics of effective learning from the earliest years.

Comprising of an exciting playground area with apparatus, a mud kitchen, water play area, places to practice mark making, a bug hotel as well as a brand-new forest school area to explore with multiple growing beds, a tunnel and story hut, our Foundation Stage outdoor area provides a place for children to develop confidence in their own abilities, be creative and to investigate and solve problems together. They will find joy in exploring in a natural environment, they will learn to take and manage risk, and participate in active play activities.

Our Infant/Junior Playgrounds

Our main playgrounds, with their different areas for ball and playground games as well as quiet areas, allow all pupils to enjoy the playground equally. We stagger our play and lunchtimes so there’s always lots of space to play.

Our Specialised National Lottery-Funded Sports Pitch

We are the very proud beneficiaries of a specialized national lottery-funded sports pitch, offering our pupils the opportunity to develop core skills to fulfill their athletic potential in a fun and focused manner through the numerous sports it facilitates.

Our Garden

In January 2017, we were delighted to unveil our long awaited school garden. This was the culmination of a long project that began with Turtles Class growing seeds from space as part of the Rocket Science project in conjunction with the European Space Agency and which has seen the school as a whole working steadily through the different levels of RHS award for school gardening.

As a school we chose to create a School garden in response to repeated requests from pupils but also because of the benefits having a garden can confer on those making use of it, including improved physical and mental wellbeing, confidence, teamwork and communication; the development of a sense of responsibility in nurturing living things; the encouragement of healthier lifestyles through the growing of fruit and vegetables. Gardening also teaches children crucial lessons about the environment and sustainability.

Our Stage Area

Our stage area provides somewhere for our pupils to be creative, become more confident and develop new skills through singing, dancing and creating dramas with their friends.

Bike and Scooter Storage

As an enthusiastic participant in TfL’s STARS scheme, inspiring young Londoners to think differently about travel and its impact on their health, well-being and the environment, Shaftesbury Park encourages active travel to and from school and provides bike and scooter storage to facilitate this.
