Thinking about Our World, Expanding Our World

Happy new year Shaftesbury Park Community!

As we start a new term and a brand-new year, I find myself reflecting on our bold school vision: we develop children who think out their world, expand their world and change their world. It’s hugely ambitious, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned from our children, it’s that they have no shortage of creative ideas and a determination to make their voices heard!

To illustrate, let me introduce you to our school newspaper RF News, written by children, for children.  And now, time for the big reveal…RF News  has officially gone digital! That’s right, our newspaper has its very own website!

Thinking Out Our World

Through RF News, our pupils are flexing their critical thinking muscles and learning to analyse their surroundings and challenge norms— essential skills for life.

Expanding Our World

Equally exciting is how our budding journalists are using their platform to broaden horizons. Recent features have included our clips on our environment, global news and literature.

Changing Our World

Perhaps the most inspiring aspect of RF News is how it empowers our children to think about creating change. A recent editorial titled should ‘Christmas breaks be longer’ sparked an interesting debate among many year groups. It reminds us all that even small ideas can lead to big change.

A Community Effort

Of course, none of this would be possible without our incredible staff and our parents, who provide gentle guidance.  And a word to our children - your creativity, curiosity, and confidence continue to amaze me. Keep asking questions!
