Enterprise Curriculum
Enterprise Stream
At Shaftesbury Park Primary School, our Enterprise Stream is designed to equip children with the skills and mindset needed for future success. Starting from an early age, we provide opportunities for students to develop essential skills that will enhance their future employability and prepare them to become the entrepreneurs and leaders of tomorrow.
How We Teach the Enterprise Curriculum
Enterprise Education is integrated across all subjects, with a strong focus on the International Curriculum. This curriculum covers subjects like science, history, geography, music, art, technology, and PE, all tied together through engaging topics. Each topic is paired with a related theme from the Skills Builder programme, and approaches include:
- Business Approach: Creating and selling a product.
- Community Approach: Organizing events or exhibitions.
- Environmental Approach: Running campaigns for a cause.
- Problem-Solving Approach: Collaborating to overcome challenges, debate, or research.
For example, in the IPC topic "Saving the World," students might take on an Enterprise project like "Trash to Treasure," where they create eco-friendly toys from recycled materials to promote the importance of recycling.
The 8 Enterprise Skills
The core of our Enterprise Stream is developing eight key skills that are essential for future success. These skills are woven into every lesson, ensuring that children have the opportunity to practice and master them over time.
Assessment
We assess each child's progress in Enterprise using the Skills Builder framework, which breaks down the eight employability skills into teachable steps. This framework helps us track each child’s development and make any necessary adjustments to our teaching methods to support their growth.
Beyond the Classroom: Building Enterprise Skills
We believe that learning doesn't stop at the classroom door. To further develop their Enterprise skills, our students participate in activities like:
- The Tycoon Project: In partnership with The Peter Jones Foundation, students create business plans and launch their own businesses, selling products like homemade jewelry and bespoke slime.
- Enterprise Challenge Days: Special days where students work in teams to solve real-world problems, such as inventing a new sport or solving a crime CSI-style.
- Global Entrepreneurship Week & My Money Week: Events where children apply their skills to creative and practical challenges.
Benefits of the Enterprise Stream for Children:
- Real-World Skills: Children gain practical, lifelong skills like teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity.
- Confidence and Leadership: Students build confidence by leading projects, making decisions, and seeing the results of their work.
- Future Readiness: The program prepares children for future success by developing an entrepreneurial mindset.
Collaboration with the Bilingual Stream
Although children are enrolled in either the Enterprise or Bilingual Stream, our school fosters a collaborative environment where both streams benefit from each other. Enterprise students gain exposure to French language and culture, while Bilingual students participate in Enterprise activities like Challenge Days. This collaboration enriches the learning experience for all students, both in and out of the classroom.
Our Enterprise Stream at Shaftesbury Park Primary School offers children a dynamic and engaging education that prepares them for a successful future, both academically and in their personal lives.
