Department for Education learns from Shaftesbury Park

The Department for Education’s review of the National Curriculum, which will bring more focus on teaching skills, non-core subjects, and citizenship means many schools will have to make changes. Shaftesbury Park, however, is more than ten years ahead of the government!

We recently welcomed civil servants from the Department for Education who were keen to learn about how we were already delivering the strong curriculum they want. During their visit they heard from school leaders about how our unique curriculum was delivered, saw first-hand how it’s incorporated from nursery to year six, and met with children to talk about the difference it makes to them and their aspirations.

It’s more than a decade since Shaftesbury Park moved to its current innovative model. With the first students moving through their GCSEs and into A-levels, they were especially interested in hearing about how our experience aligned with decades of education research that shows our model gives children a lifelong advantage in education, work, and life.

They particularly commented on the confidence that the children showed, not only in answering questions about their experiences, but also asking challenging questions of our visitors in return!

We’re always proud to show off our school, its forward-thinking curriculum and how we are developing children who think about their world, enlarge their world, and change their world, so if you’d like to see how our Enterprise and Bilingual model can benefit your child, just get in touch.
